Direct Distribution

In May, to coincide with Cannes, Screen International announced the launch of an alternative distribution solution, Shear Tonic.

PRESS RELEASE:

SHEAR TONIC JV OFFERS ALTERNATIVE DISTRIBUTION SOLUTION FOR FILMMAKERS

Independent distribution companies, Shear Entertainment and We Are The Tonic, join forces to offer film makers, sales agents and distributors a new approach to get their films distributed in the best possible way.

In response to demand from filmmakers seeking direct distribution, and sales agents wanting hold back UK rights and distribute themselves, David Shear of Shear Entertainment and Deborah Rowland of We Are The Tonic, are working together to bring the right team of experts to a project, and then manage that team to deliver the best release for the film, be it theatrical, home Entertainment or VOD.

With over 45 years and 750 films-worth of experience between them, David and Deborah have been working separately on consultancy and direct distribution projects, and supporting sales agents and distributors without the theatrical sales or marketing expertise in-house. They are now launching their joint venture with Praslin Pictures's Tony Benn: Will & Testament due for national release in the Summer.

Deborah Rowland, former Director of Distribution, Sales & Marketing at Distributor/Exhibitor Curzon Artificial Eye, says, "The Shear-Tonic approach means that film companies can access our extensive combined distribution experience on a project basis, and film-makers have more creative and financial control over the releases of their films."

David Shear, former Director of Distribution at Revolver, says, "Just as importantly, film-makers who work with us have all the benefits of having a distributor without having to relinquish their rights. We have experience across all release platforms, from theatrical and DVD, to VOD and ancillary - the perfect distribution solution!"
